New London Themed Prints added to the collection including Big Ben and The Gherkin. Its been a busy run up to Christmas in the last few weeks what with Open Studios in Clerkenwell where i sell my collection of sculptural jewellery (www.modicajewellery.com if you are interested) and a week long Pop up Shop also in Clerkenwell London where my collection of Limited Edition prints had their first public viewing and had lots of great feedback and sales.

I have also got a new stockist for the prints at www.madebyhandsofbritain.com, and www.bouf.com, esty as well as my own website. Also a small collection of prints are on display in my friends (also called Bronagh) pop up shop in Belfast.

Next year I am hoping to get some shops to stock the prints as well as doing a printmaking course at the Citylit in London where I would like to experiment with some more printing techniques such as etching and linocuts, so watch this space.

Wishing everyone a great Christmas and New year

Bronagh

I am doing a photography workshops at the moment and the theme is rust and decay - a pretty uninspiring subject you would think but once you start looking rust produces some amazing colours, patterns and textures. Worthy of printing large i think.

URBAN TEXTURES - New Portfolio Work

Many people focus on textures and patterns found in nature but I find that the man made environment is just as interesting and beautiful. From derelict buildings, through city centre facades, construction sites and skylines the built environment is a real treasure pot of textures, patterns, light, shade and shadows. I have manipulated the images, taking away the colour and playing with the contrast and depth to enhance the pattern and create these black and white abstract images.

New York Probably has one of the most recognisable skylines in the world, this view captures the iconic Empire State Building from the East River.

Ever since it was built, the Empire State Building in 1931 it has been and enduring icon for New York and is visited by millions of tourists ever year. It has also been the star of quite a few films, most memorably King Kong!

A DAY AT THE WORLDS FAIR!!

On the trip in from JFK airport I was intrigued by these weird circular platforms on pillars hovering on the skyline - found out it was the old ‘New York State Pavillion’ from the 1964 World Fair in Queens New York now know as Flushing Meadow, Corona Park that was the site of the 1939 and 1964 Worlds Fair and some of the original structures remain.

Intrigued we took the train out and found a real little gem. The highlights were:

1. the Queens Museum of Art that houses a 867sq m 3D model of the five boroughs of New York with every building constructed before 1992 with 895,000 individual pieces. (constructed for the 1964 fair)

2. Unisphere - a 12 storey stainless globe, also constructed for the 1964 fair and was the centre piece of the park.

3. The New York State Pavilion that was build for the 1964 fair but they never found a use for it afterwards and it is now rusting and derelict but makes a great photography subject.

WALKING THE MANHATTAN BRIDGE

After quite a few trips to New York this was the first time I have walked the Manhattan Bridge. The intention was to walk the Brooklyn Bridge but when we arrive the whole east end of the bridge is having repair work done and is covered in scaffolding so the view are very limited. We decided to walk the Manhattan Bridge instead and I am very glad we did. The bridge has walkways on both sides but the south side is supposedly for cyclists only with pedestrians being told to use the gloomy north side. Ignore and opt for the sunny south side with fantastic views over the East River and Lower Manhattan (you will get shouted at by a few angry cyclists - but its worth it). Particularly good are the roofscape views you get when arriving on the Manhattan side.

New York selection of some of the most famous buildings in the world even though they are all quite old now they still really dominate the New York Skyline.

Decided to turn them into graphic images as i think this brings out the detail in the building more and invites the view to take a closer look. The same as all my prints they are available in a range of background colours - blue, green, orange, lime and dark pink
